Tile Coaster Make-over
Hello, so today I don't have time to do everything I want to do, but I feel unproductive if I don't do anything...sure go ahead, call me crazy*smile*. I picked up this coaster set last week for $2.50.You can even find these same type of tiles at your local home improvement store, usually for pretty cheap. The ones I found aren't really my style. So I thought a little make-over was needed. I knew I wanted to use Mod Podge, but wasn't sure if I wanted to use paper or fabric...Ultimately I picked paper, and found this really pretty one last night on a quick run through Joanns on my lunch break...I heart Joanns. 59 cents later and I was ready to go...
Here was everything I was going to need.
I just simply flipped the coaster over and traced it onto the paper, and cut it out...fast and easy.
I sanded the coasters a bit to make sure the paper would stick well.
I apllied a layer of mod podge to the back of the paper and around the edges of the coaster, to assure good contact.
Smoothed it out with my fingers...BTW in the middle of this I had to chase my boy around, trying to get the adds he got outta the trash ( yes he's a trash digger) forgot to wash my fingers, and got some dye on the coaster... note to self: make sure fingertips are clean next time *smile*.
After letting them dry for about 15 min...I sanded the edges to mainly trim back the paper and then to add a little more character.
Speaking of character after looking at them...they were just too light, so I got out my brown acrylic paint added a dash of water and rubbed it on and then off...kinda like you would if you were using stain...
See? I missed a shot...oops, but I added about 3 coats of mod podge...sanded a bit so the glases would sit flat....
and...Me like...
