New Favorite Things

I know...I know....I haven't been around lately...sorry. I've gotten caught up and that little thing we call life :)
Took a little (long awaited) vacation to visit family. Witnessed my cousin marry the greatest and most beautiful woman ever ;) Now I'm planning my sons 7th birthday party...I've realized I need to plan way more ahead of time that before...

Buuuut....I want to share my most favorite things right now. If you know me, you know I absolutely HATE shoes...yeah they are pretty, and I buy alot of them...but never wear them...A simple pair of black flip flops, is what you'll find me in almost every day....until that is I saw a commercial for these "Fast Flats" yep by Dr. Scholls
I got mine from Walgreens for $13.99 and was a little pissed when I saw them 1 day later at Rite Aid for $9.99...big difference. But they are worth it!
I felt like I was going around barefoot...but not, ya know!
I know, there are ballet flats everywhere...but I have a super wide foot and those normally just squeeze my toes beyond belief.
So anywho...go out, get yourself a pair...and the little wristlet that comes with em makes a cute little blingy coin purse...
Wow! I just read over this post, and I sounded liek a cheesy infomercial! lol Owell...just get some...I bet you'll love em!

Oh and I totally pinky-swear that I'll be back soon with a project I've been "slowly" working on :)
Have a great weekend all!

Homemade Patch for holey jeans...kid style!

And they call me super mom! Let me just say I am such a sucker when it comes to my boys. What mom isn't right?

So this morning I'm laying out clothes for my oldest to wear for school, and he starts to complain. He doesn't like the jeans I picked out...
"the bottoms are too big".
"Ummmm ok," I say "well what would you like to wear then?"
"My black skinny jeans"
"Oh you mean the ones with the big ol honkin hole in the knee?"
"yeah"

So my mind starts to go nutso...what the heck can I do, there is only an hour left before we have to leave...
Freezer paper Stencil came to mind!
I jumped on the computer googled "skull and cross bones" saved one I liked with super simple details.
then printed it out in a 3x5 size.
traced it onto the freezer paper, cut it out...really fast! meanwhile he has a seperate pair of black jeans WITH a whole in the knee that are way too short, So I cut a square out of the leg...

Next I ironed the freezer paper stencil onto the scrap piece of jean...and painted it white ( I used regular craft paint...probably not the best for this project...but last minute, it worked great!
Of coarse I didn't have the time to let it dry so I set it under the hair dryer for a bit...

Pealed off the freezer paper, and.....
PERFECT!

now time to break out my iron on transfer paper...and ironed that too the New Patch
Then Ironed that to his "Favorite Black Skinny Jeans!"

He tried them on....and the look on his face was priceless.....then the angels sang! and all that good stuff.... Look at him, how cute my lil punker is!

Well I'm sure I'll have some more stuff to share...Come back and visit soon :)

Screen Printing The Easy Way!

After cruising through blogland, I ran into a blog called Lil Blue Boo. You have got to check her out! She is awesome, and she has some great tutorials! She silkscreens alot of her stuff, makes her own patterned fabric, daughters clothes, and I could just go on and on. She is Good! Instead of using a big ol silk screen machine for simple designs, she simply uses contact paper, traces the design, cuts it out with an exacto knife, then sticks it to the screen, and squeegees the ink over the design. And Voila! She made it look so simple and cool! I had to try it...

You all know how it is to have that favorite pair of jeans, flip flops, hoodie sweatshirt you don't want to take off, right? Well when my 6 year old son was about 4, he had a favorite black t-shirt. He loved to wear it everywhere, I think because he got a lot of attention when he wore it. It said "Sorry girls, I only date models" (I know, I know) way to encourage it huh? It was cute!

The other day I was picking him up from the bus stop, and almost before he even got in the car he saw his baby brother wearing it...what can I say hand -me-downs are awesome! Well Trevor got really upset and said "Why is Brody wearing my shirt?" Now lets get this straight, if Trevor were to put it on...it would be like spandex on him...way too small.

I felt bad...the little pity party he was putting on didn't help much either. So I was thinking about putting my YUDU to some good use. My hubby got it for me right after Christmas...I think it is super cool, but just kinda complicated for me. I want to do things fast, and see the result NOW!

So heres where the project comes in. I'm gonna make Trevor a new shirt that fits him! hmmm? whatta ya think of that! I went to Joanns got a simple black t-shirt for $3. Then today, I was on a mission. I followed every step...

1 print out the design/saying
2 traced it onto contact/adheisive shelf paper from 99 cent store woo hoo!
3 used my exacto knife to cut it out
4 got out my screen, ink, and squeegee
5 did the deed

plain black t-shirt before

Cute black t-shirt after

And now, I get to see the happy look on my boys face when I pick him up today! (Best Part)
I'll have to update this post later on with a pic of him wearing his new shirt!

And here he is! He loved it by the way! 1 point for mom!
So check back soon...

Manic Monday Brag - Neck Tie Onesie

Yep, I am joining the trend of these do-it-yourself onesies, that I have seen just about everywhere. Did I mention I heart these! They are so handsome! I got a 3 pack of white onesies from Ross. and the material for 30% off from joanns! so for about 2 bucks, this cute lil gift was made...and this was a quick project...really quick maybe 30 min! I know right!

sketch out a tie on "Heat n Bond" paper

lay the fabric right side down, then iron pattern to fabric. I placed mine a little crooked...I wanted the lines not so straight up and down

Cut around the lines of the pattern

Peel the paper off, and then place onto onesie, and iron

and voila! it would be good just like this but I finished it off with a straight stitch all around the tie

So I took the little onesie over to my sewing machine, picked a matching thread, and got to sewing.

Here it is all done...gotta wrap it up, and give it up.

More to come...check in later!
