Picture Perfect Terrarium

Happy Earth Day!

I'm late I know.

In honor of earth day I wanted to do something "green." And planting a garden was out of the question, because of the tornado like weather we have been having so...after sitting in my cozy bed flipping through magazines, I found this wonderful handmade terrarium made from recycled picture frames, and decided to google "terrariums."

I came accross some great ones, but this one stuck out for me, My Desert Cottage. She had seen the same article as I did...So I knew I had to do it.

So real quickly, all this is, is 8 frames glues, screwed, or nailed together in the shape of a cute little miniature greenhouse! I loved it when I first saw it!

So here it is...
And heres how I put it together...
Gorilla Glue and tape...works wonders!

Took all 4 frames, (the magazine tutorial called for 2-11x14's and 2-8x10's) I altered mine a bit to get it the size that was going to work for me. Waited for the glue to set... I gave it a couple hours, and it was perfect! Did the same with the roof frames

Well both sections were dry and set, I attached them together with hot glue...

filled all the cracks with a silicone sealer

And Voila! Its all ready...the tutorial in the magazine, called for some aging affects, I really didn't want to do that, so I left it white, added some perdie flowers and a gorgeous clear glass bottle, and called it a day!

You like? I know I do!
I guess somone else does too...because this little project of mine has been featured at

This is such a great idea and to recycle all the old frames I have is even better.

This looks great. I've always wanted one! This might be a silly question but did you leave all the glass in while you put it together or is there no glass at all? I couldn't tell from the pics. I have quite a few old frames that I'm going to try to piece together now! Thanks!
