Lace Inspired Nightstand

Such a pretty lil thing!

After one of my weekly trips to my favorite thrift stores, I came home with this lil gal!
She was sad...missing some hardware, and all alone!

So first I chopped the molding down on the bottom. For some reason...it was sticking out, and really just looked funny...
Then I gave her a few coats of Black Spray paint in Satin Finish.
but...she needed a little more, I had been debating for awhile on what to do...Until one day while strolling the aisles of Joanns, I spotted this great scrapbook paper, in a lace pattern...I just knew It would be perfect!
So I cut it to fit the face of the drawers, taped....and spay painted, a cream color.
The pattern didn't come out as crisp as I had imagined...so Hey when life gives you lemons...you make lemonade right?

I sanded it up a bit...and added a slightly tinted glaze over the pattern, and added some glass knobs...

And here we go...the finished product!
Not bad, if I do say so myself :)

DIY Chalkboard

What a Grand Chalkboard!

I picked up this massive dresser a couple weeks ago, that came with 2 mirrors...(yeah its that big). And as for those mirrors, not part of the big picture for the dresser, so I decided to make one of them a chalkboard...really easily.
The glass out of it was already broken, so no work there...
I first sanded it up a bit, the started painting. I used a pale gray color from Martha Stewarts collection (can't remeber the name sorry) . But unfortunately it doesn't even look a little gray in the pics? (come to my sale on July 9th and you can tell in person ;))
Added some charcoal gray acrylic paint to my glaze...and applied it to accent all those curvalitious curves...
And here she is all done up...with a little verse and all...lol Just perfect!

Oh and here is a little something extra...

How To: Make Your Own Chalkboard Paint

Chalkboard paint is easily purchased at any hardware store. But it's only available in black or green. This recipe allows you to create the paint in any color you please:

3 teaspoons acrylic paint (color of choice)
1 1/2 teaspoons glazing medium (water-based)
1/2 teaspoon powder tile grout

Mix all ingredients together, blending very well. Make only as much as you need, as it doesn't store well...

If you try it out...let me know how it goes! Have Fun!

Cane Chair Gone Wild

Zebra print isn't just for pimps anymore...

So remember this chair from here. Welp I finally got her done!

I started by tearing her apart, making sure to keep everything so I could use them as templates...*psst* and remember how she goes back together...lol

Here she is all naked and stuff...just waiting to be painted...missed this step of coarse... not my fault, my camera was on strike...lol I used Valspar Porcelain in satin finish. Can you say "perdie"

The first step to get her back together was to replace the back, I used this amazing cream and tan zebra print fabric...and stapled it all along the edge, not worrying too much about how neat I was...because this will be covered by the front-back...make sense? lol

Next was to work on the front-back. it was originally all tufted, and I really liked the look of it...So needless ot say this was my first time with this task...fun, but I think only because I used the old foam (in perfectly good condition) that had the holes already in it. ah ha ha cheater huh?
So I layed the foam on top of the fabric, and cut away...

Next I put in all the buttons. *Note* I recovered all the old ones, and have the blisters to prove it...it was such a pain in the @#% getting them apart... but totally worth it :)

I used a marker to mark all the spots, so I would know where to cut small slits to make it waaay easier to put the buttons through the fabric...

Heres what the back looks like before I opened up all the button backs.

here it is all tufted and stuff...lol

Now to put it together...

I layed the front-back on top of the back and staples super closely to the space where the trim goes...so you wouldn't see any of the staples... not as easy as it sounds...

All done with the trim...I chose brown to contrast...I really like it, next thing is to try and make a brown pillow to coordinate with it :)

And the finished shot of the back...

All done! She's Perdie huh!

Got more coming up soon...so ya'll come back now ya hear!

Furniture+Liquor=Love

Liquor Cabinet Reveal

Straight from the mouth of a great entertainer...

I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day. ~Frank Sinatra

First off let me opologize for the crazy amount of pictures in this post! I am just super proud of this one...and it took alot to make it so pretty!

I picked up this very retro credenza from a little sale at a church down the street for pennies...literally? I knew for that cheep, I couldn't leave him there...So my little brain got to storming, and I came up with a liquor bar...Who doesn't want one of these huh?

It originally had sliding doors on the bottom half, and didn't want to keep them, so I covered the tracks with a thin molding...(gorilla glue and brad nails)

He started out this ucky brown....

(note: my lil rascal squeezing in for the pic...lol )

and ended up a stylish black...

(this is just a flat black cheapy spray paint primer)

next came all the good inside stuff...(out of order a bit, but you'll get the idea)I added a wine glass hanger thingy to one side

(awesome price of like 4 bucks at Lowes)

and after the installation...

Then I built a little removable serving tray out of the old sliding door...

and a cheapy wood frame, butchered down to size...

I added some sleek chrome handles (missed a couple pics sorry)here is the end result...

Next was the trying part...I couldn't figure out for the life of me how I wanted to add the wine rack...until my hubby came to the rescue one day (superman theme and all)...We were cruising around the local salvation army, and he spotted this collapsible thing...

I swear I heard angels sing..."He really does listen when I rant and rave" When we got it home, he cut it down to size, and voila...fits like a glove!

after a few coats of satin black...

After all is said and done...and if you notice I had to use my decorative "old" bottles to stage this piece...because the process was a bit stressful, and all of my wine came in handy for my nerves...lol

I've been away for a week or two...but I promise, I'm workin on stuff...so my absence is worth it :)

An Angel gets its Wings...

So they say...

Alrightie last but certainly not least. This perdie lil thang...was waiting patiently while I figured out what the heck I wanted to dress her in.
She started out an ucky brown like the last one...

And with a couple coats of Krylon Satin Black, she starts her new life like this...
I decided to give her wings...
Story behind why is long...but to shorten it, my 16 year old sister is going through some trial and error stuff right now, and 1 1/2 years ago she had a rod inserted in her back due to a severe case of scoliosis...for a while leading up to the surgery and until now, she has been wanting angel wings tattooed onto her back to cover the scars. So one night after thinking of her, I sketched out some wings on the table top
And then took a little trip to the hardware store where I happened to find a paint pen by Krylon...and traced out the wings
then filled them in with simple old craft paint...
I sanded her a bit...to add some signs of distressing, then applied some dark stain I had...with a Q-Tip...(I really didn't want to have stain all over the place that day)

And after putting some stain all over the table top(over the wings) I wiped it off with a damp towel...Turned out just how I wanted.

So here you have it...the Angel that got her Wings! I promise no more Teeny Tables for a while...
